Jay-Z interview with Zane Lowe pt 1 , 4 day argument with Kanye West over Oceans and Holy Grail. FULL HIGHLIGHTS

BBC1’s Zane Lowe, IMO the best music interviewer in the game (sorry Nardwuar) sits down for part 1 of his interview with Jay-Z at Abbey Road Studios.  Among many other things they discuss his 4 day argument with Kanye West over tracks that ended up being used for  Magna Carta Holy Grail but predated Watch The Throne.

Highlights below, the time listed is when that portion of the convo began

Jay-Z jokingly ( i think) says Roc the Mic studios is as famous as Abbey Road studios.  Talks about the recording of Blueprint and how Just Blaze and Kanye West would go back and forth. :30

Admits you need great producers to make good music no matter HOW GOOD your lyrics are.  Blueprint was that “magic moment” when it all aligns 2:20

He and Kanye West planned to do solo albums  following Watch The Throne.  Jay played Kanye “Holy Grail” and “Oceans” around the time they were making WTT.  Kanye said noooo those must be on WTT.  4 day argument him trying to explain why he wanted them to be  his own.  As a compromise they brought Frank Ocean and The Dream back in, and that is when “No Church in the Wild and “Made it in America” were reordered.   3:20

He goes on to say that he wasn’t really in album mode but when he did the Barclays shows him and Timbaland linked back up and he played him the beat for “Picasso Baby” and thats what started things back up for Magna Carta Holy Grail.  Feels like the album has a real 90’s feel, says even “Part II” sounds 90’s ish (i don’t agree).  Acknowledges that “Picasso Baby” has a DJ Premiere “A Million and One Questions” feel to it (I think its more “So Ghetto” but who asked me) 5:15

Recorded Open Letter the same day as Versus.  Was literally Swizz and Timbaland battling back and forth on drum machines 8:10

Fallout with Timbaland happened toward the end of recording Blueprint 3.  Some of the records that were his were leaked and Kanye was even like “wheres Tim, lets get him more on this” 9:00

Never really worked on project with Timbaland, really just songs, this is first time 10:45

Recorded most of the album at Jungle Studios (aka the most well lit studio in the world), owned by Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz.  While Beyonce and Justin Timberlake were also working on there albums. 11:00

BBC happened because everyone went to the 10th anniversary dinner for Pharrell’s Billionaire Boys Club line and came back to the studio afterward.  Felt a duty to record a song that night. 12:00

Speaks on patching things up with Nas, explains its really just competition and the entourages and crews get in the way usually 13:00

Speaks on the concept of EGO, and others ego’s lot of fluff (shame on you Zane) 14:15

Talks about how sometimes not engaging in “stupid shit” is perceived as arrgoance 15:50

Today is the Brooklyn Music Festival, unfortunately I will not be able to attend which frankly as a new resident of Brooklyn and an absolute super stan of Pusha T , I’m very bummed about.  Nonetheless here is a really solid live stream of the event.  Support good hip hop and let your friends know.

Cassie Veggies has already confirmed that he and Vince Staples are featured on the track “Hive”

After the firestorm Earl created by giving his opinion on Jay-Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail, the expectations for his album are at an all time high.

If you’ve never heard anything by the guy checkout what I think is his best work so far.

Justin Timberlake – Take Back The Night , new single from 20/20 Experience Pt 2

Justin Timberlake – Take Back The Night is the new single from Justin’s upcoming 20/20 Experience pt 2 (sept 20th)

The song which is produced by and features (for like 3 seconds)Timbaland definitely has a heavy Michael Jackson feel. The album cover  justin-timberlake-2020-experience-20-of-2-400x400

Justin Timberlake definitely knows how to get the internet going, no doubt trying to keep the momentum  from his appearance on the hype train that is Magna Carta Holy Grail he dropped a teaser trailer a few days prior to hype up the song and album

Jay-Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail which features the single “Holy Grail” with Justin is estimated to do 475-525k first week, which would make it #2 only to Justin Timberlake’s 900+ from the first 20/20 experience. Seems like justin is on pace to potentially have the #1 and #2 albums in a given year, has that ever been done? (check back ill look into it).

Macklemore Freestyle + Peter Rosenberg Interview Highlights

Here Macklemore spits a freestyle, he talks about alot of relevant things including Method Man’s complaints and being white in hip hop

Below is an Interview he then did with Rose the god
Also check out more clips of Mack with Angie Martinez at Hot97’s youtube page

Highlights from Rosenberg interview:
Rosenberg the first time they met Rosenberg fronted on him, to go talk to DON TRIP

Macklemore thought his album The Heist had no singles, NEVER thought “Thrift Shop” would be anything

He has been very entrenched in the Seattle rap scene since 15 yrs old, writing graffiti, trying to breakdance etc

Jake-One and Topsin are the homies, got to meet Sir Mix A lot, number 1 mix a lot song is “my posse’s on broadway”

Rosenberg cries constantly while watching the video “Same Love”’ which btw has 56 million views, thats over half a billion total views for this guy, CRAZYYYYY

Was very cognizant that the subject matter on “Same Love” was significant in the hip hop world, realizes its another thing for a black rapper to talk about it, feels A$AP Rocky has done a good job being open minded in the public.

Met Tyler the Creator in Europe, thought it was funny he kind made fun of him right after on social media

Realizes he’s the “friendly to white adults” rapper currently, POPPPIN at the Bar Mitvahs. For the most part thinks white rappers are corny, immediate suspicion

He does not have a small penis

When asked how long hes been clean he says he got sober in 2008, and hasn’t drank or smoked weed since then but seems to be somewhat hinting that he hasn’t been perfect and maybe even this year might of slipped

All time favorites are the obvious, really inspired by Kanye and Talib Kweli at some points, right now Kendrick (TDE) is THAT DUDE

Thinks its impressive that Kendrick is going to beat him to Platinum album wise even though he doesn’t have gold singles.

Agree with Rosenberg that “Good Kid MAAD City may be better than ANY album Jay-Z ever made”

In general Macklemore seems very aware of what it means to be a white guy in a black dominated and founded genre. It’s tuff not to like this guy
