Yeezus Born Sinner Watching Movies FINAL sounds can numbers

So the numbers are in
Kanye West Yeezus – 328,000
J.Cole Born Sibner – 297,000
Mac Miller Watching Movies With The Sound Off – 101,000

J.Cole’s Born Sinner and Mac’s Watching Movies are about what estimates expected but Yeezus Christ Kanye’s West’s final numbers are far lower than early estimates of 375-400k.
As great as J. Cole must feel you know deep down inside he’s thinking FUCK I coulda just had Jay-Z (or himself for that matter) cop 30k extra and I’d be #1

I say this only in part kidding; In most cases the idea of being #1 for accolade reasons and it somehow helping your bottom line is a farce. But in this case Cole usurping the monster presence that is Kanye West could have a lasting affect on his credibility and thus viability in the marketplace.

The question this coming week of June 24 is where will Wale’s 3rd album The Giftedfit into next weeks mix. Personally I think Yeezus has a solid chance of carrying a really strong 2nd week and staying #1. Consider the albums somewhat surprising almost unanimously strong reviews and the fact that many legit fans had no idea he had an album coming out. One would think that would put it on course to having steady sales for at least a few weeks. What West does regarding radio singles/videos is also a real wildcard in terms of album sales. Of all songs “Black Slaves” seems to be the most popular on iTunes currently. It’ll be interesting to see if any one song charts off digital sales and streaming alone (check back I’ll update).
Could J.Cole possibly have a stronger second week than his Rocnation cohort’s (Rocnation management in Wale’s case) first week. In a similar fashion to Cole’s potential #1 this week, Wale’s coming in 2nd or 3rd in this weeks sales battle could be a huge credibility hit.

Stay tuned much more updates and analysis to come.

Kanye Yeezus FINAL Tracklist

So the release and days/weeks leading up of the Kanye album Yeezus were some of the most exciting but also most confusing and convoluted

In the weeks and months leading up to the release there were many rumors of possible production collaborators and features, most notably Daft Punk, and most out of left field The Heatmakerz.

The album was played first on Monday 6/12 at the album listening at Milk Studios that yours truly happened to stumble on.

Around friday a picture of the final album hit the web, including a sticker that was attached to the back of the album which listed production and writing credits. The sticker did make mention that further production credits would be listed at, however at the time they were not there yet.

Around Monday I beleive an “album booklet” hit the web. Although it ended up not being real as it was designed by a member of the extremely knowledgeable Kanye To The forum it was very on point, although unfortunately it seems the Heatmakerz credit (among other things) was not correct. Apologizes that it ended up on this site as a final track list.

Now the final (AND VERY DETAILED) production credits are available at (also posted at top of this entry).

Here is a  clip of the very interesting interview  long time Kanye associate and producer/musician Mike Dean did with the Huffington Post.  I recommend watching the whole thing here

For one Dean is an interesting guy, claims he smokes Snoop under the table, is very short worded and is somewhat the exact opposite of who you would think is Kanye West’s main collaborator, at least based on his public image. Some other highlights
-He produced on all 6 other Kanye albums (WTT included), not 3 as wikipedia stated
-He basically says Kanye is Dr.Dre nowadays in how he produces. That he takes things that the large groups of collaborators will come up with ,decide on something he like and then add things too it, “sort through it” he says.
-Says Daz n Kurupt used to live at his house when they were “hiding from Suge Knight”
-Talks about working on a song with Brad Paisley about shooting guns, that got scrapped because of the recent shootings, he may leak the record. I mention this just because the way Dean tells this story is amazing, really you should watch this interview.
-His DJ name is M.W.A. (Mexican Wrestling Association)
Seriously this guy is amazing, he needs his own show.

Kanye Yeezus J.Cole Born Sinner Mac Miller album sales estimates

So according to which is pretty much the preeminent and almost only authority on album sales; this weeks hip hop releases are predicted as follows (based on first day estimates):
Kanye West Yeezus: 375-400k
J.Cole Born Sinner: 290-315k
Mac Miller Watching Movies With The Sound Off: 95-100k

Now bear in mind these are estimates, which as of late have often been a decent amount less than what the final #’s end up.

To me the biggest takeaway is how low Kanye’s sales are predicted to be. Industry estimates were in the 500k range, which frankly i thought was an intentional low ball because of the “F the system ” nature of Yeezus’s lead up and release. I figured between the past weeks feverish hype for Yeezus as well as the news over the weekend of Kanye and Kim Kardashian’s baby being born, pointed to the album over achieving sales wise. Now it’s very possible that Kanye’s very different approach to the album release could also have an effect on the predicting of sales, especially considering the no pre order element of Yeezus. But Hits Daily Double is too good not to factor that in.

The other takeaway is how well Cole’s Born Sinner is selling. Although not an unbelievable amount more than I thought (210-230k) his potential #’s would make his album this years 4th best release, with Timberlakes 20/20, West’s Yeezus and Daft Punks R.A.M being the top 3. Not bad company for young Jermaine.

If these numbers hold true the implications are interesting. To be fair I think Yeezus’s very good reviews and somewhat surprise element to many casual fans will lead to it having good and consistent sales for weeks to come.

The information is especially relevant to Jay-Z who seems on pace to have an even less traditional rollout for his album Magna Carta Holy Grail (he already has Kanye beat on the shortness between announcement to release date). The numbers really reinforce something I had immediately thought; why wouldn’t Jay-Z wait till at least today (6/19) to announce his album release. Stay tuned updates will be made to this post as the week goes on.

Jay-Z New Album July 4th Magna Carta Holy Grail featuring Drake, Justin Timberlake, Raekwon, Nas *

Post Last Updated 6/18 7:22 east (further analysis, production breakdown)

*speculative deduction

coolest commercial ever ?

So Jay-Z just unveiled his new album via halftime of NBA Finals Game 5 apparently titled Magna Carta Holy Grail due out July 4th for 1 million free owners of certain Samsung devices who download the Magna Carta Holy Grail app, 72 hrs before it is released officially.

The commercial was pretty tremendous showing what seemed to be Jay-Z, Pharell,Timbaland,Swizz Beats, and the consigliere Rick Rubin organically creating the album. Not sure if the instrumentals heard on the commercial will be on the album but they sounded pretttyy tight.  Kanye West will most likely have some part in the album seeing as Kanye is actually in the commercial!  Go to 1:40 in, you can very clearly hear Jay-Z say “Hey uh YE you wanna tweak that?” and then refers to a part of the beat.  We’ll revisit that

Very interesting move considering the timing with Jay-Z ‘s long time collaborator and friend Kanye West dropping his album Yeezus, as well as Roc Nations main Act J.Cole releasing his sophomore album Born Sinner on Tuesday.

So what can we expect from this album ?
Well besides what’s made clear in the commercial, the producers shown most likely have songs they produced/co produced (I’m guessing many songs will be co-prods) on the album.  Track by track analysis from the commercial is below
J.Cole, who you can’t help but feel like is directly and possibly not so nicely affected by the announcement recently put out a clip that featured him playing a beat he had produced, that he went on to say was for Jay and he would hopefully use it. It was especially hot and featured a sample from the play “Newsies” that had a strong part about Brooklyn, Jay’s hometown.
The Dreamin a recent interview said he had done work with Jay that pre dates Watch The Throne which Jay did with Kanye West and that he is confident it will be on Jay-Z’s next album.  It’s unclear what role he played on the song. Seeing how close these two seem as of late with Dream being one of Beyonces biggest contributors (he produced her massive hit sngle ladies) as well as Dream’s first single off his new4Play album features Jay-Z.

Many will wonder what possible guest features Jay-Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail will have. As of now Drake, Justin Timberlake, Nas, and Raekwon seem highley likely. In the past month or so pictures of Jay-Z in what seems to be a studio or office with Drake have hit the web a separate one with Raekwon , and most recently one of Nas, Timbaland and Justin Timberlake have come out via Jay’s unofficial photographer, producer and long time Rocafella staple Lenny S (Kodaklens on IG) . Cross referencing these photos with the ” most well lit studio ever” from last nights commercial it looks like they are one in the same one. Consider the emphasis in the commercial of showing this album as something that happened over a short period and fast paced time. One would think that adding up this circumstantial evidence is enough to assume these great artist made the cut.

The Tracks played in the commercial are actually somewhat obvious as to who produced what if you pay attention to details

  1. Timbaland
  2. Kanye or Swizz, maybe both, although you see him refer to Kanye you later see Swizz in the same beat portion, also no other tracks seems to be Swizz, however one would think “Open Letter” which was Co-produced by Swizz and Tim will make the album.
  3. Timbaland, this seems to be the “i just want a picasso” song seemingly about being able to own superficial things and it not being all it’s cracked up to be
  4. Rick Rubin? sound very heavy, 99 problems and Rick Rubin actual BEAT MAKING esque, opposed to sitting on couches and sounding deep aka producing for him
  5. Pharell(neptunes?), easily the most obvious beat, they tell you its them, and I mean no one else sounds like Pharell real

Wow this gives a whole new look to his summer concert tour . Especially when you consider the potential new work with Timberland and Justin Timberlake and the fact that Jay-Z will most likely do a lot of new material.

Btw how phony does the last pic seem.

Anyway. My guess is there’s a single that drops TONIGHT (6/17) . oops

If and when it drops well have it here for your listening pleasure. Seeing as how close the album is from launching might be tempted not to listen and just wait for the whole thing.

What do you think. Any chance Jay-Z announcement hurts his Tuesdays album droppers momentum ?
