Jay-Z on Angie Martinez Hot 97 Interview (7/9) Video’s and Summary of what he said

Highlights of the interview

Jay-Z says he’s “obviously” proud of Cole and Wale, he’d be fine if Cole were to outsell him (#mylaugh)

When asked how he/ if he feel guilty about Dame Dash he said he’s still got love for Dame, thinks hell eventually find his way out but he can’t control what happens in life.

Thinks “Holy Grail” is one of Justin Timberlake’s best vocal performances.

Says he has legitimately had txts with Obama. Obama during Election Day said to him “4th qtr, just give me the ball”. Jay responded with “Word”

Beyonce’s HBO special gave him some anxiety. Because he reveals so much in his music, “anymore ima feel naked out here”

He’s watching the [Zimmerman]Trial heavy, otherwise stuff is bs, back to sports

He wants more kids

Ebro was indeed “you got scannas” guy on “Open Letter”

BBC in studio video with Nas, Timbaland, Beyonce, Swizz, Pharell and Justin Timberlake is amazing has footage of it hell release, wouldn’t be shocked if that serves as the video.

Had to shut down some instagram/vine action from a friend/hangeron in the studio

Lenny S. has ACCESS doe

Hov not regularly , but once in a while reads blogs, no gossip, no reality tv, seen love and hip hop (and everything) at least once

Does Jay ever get involved with Rhianna and some of her “situations “? -“only when asked ”

Gets into a weird thing where he talks about not needing money, but more in the way that he doesn’t care about it, not that hes earned so much he doesn’t need more.

Says Wale J.COlE Yeezus and Magna Carta Holy Grail is all he really listens to now “not alot of room in the changer”

Says he doesn’t do backflips on stage anymore.

Won’t do a best of both worlds thing with Beyonce. “You see how that worked out

Jay unintentionally makes nas sound a bit extra “comfortable” saying he was impressed another man would say “Pharells a Pharoh, peep the features ”

Tells Angie “he’s busy”, TOUR TOUR TOUR, they’re a 2 income family. Maybe euro tour. Baby Blue’s passport game is already proper.

She’s musically inclined already, but sounds like jay in no rush for her to be in the game

Feels vulnerable having a child. Paparazzi are understandable, but take it too far

So it seems Timbaland was not exaggerating, he pretty much produced the bulk of the Magna Carta album

Also very excited to see my man Adrian Younge’s name pop up in the credits for sampling his songs, the first time I heard him I thought to myself man this would be great to sample. If you havent checked out his solo stuff DO THAT, also check out the album he produced for Ghostface Killah early this year

2 New Jay-Z Magna Carta Holy Grail Ad “Heaven” and “Jay-Z Blue”

Heaven

In this brand new clip promoting Jay-Z’s July 4th album Magna Carta Holy Grail Jay gets kinda deep & waxes philosophical with the man with the Midas touch Rick Rubin and breaks down the thought behind the track “Heaven” off the forthcoming album.

Jay-Z Blue

In this second clip he breaks down the song “Jay-Z Blue” which is not about his “favorite hue” as he once referenced but about his newborn daughter Blue Ivy and the paranoia of not being a good father because of the lack of positive influences he had as a child.  Probably the realest and most emotional of the clips and maybe anything ive ever seen from the usually impenetrable Sir Hov..

These commercials are cool and all, but how bout some music?

Jay-Z “Holy Grail” Ft Justin Timberlake song Lyrics (written by The Dream)

20130624-214208.jpg

6/24 11:45 pm
-So this seems to be the song Courtney Love was referring to that uses elements of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit”. The fact that its most likely Justin Timberlake that sings the lines “And Were All Just/Entertainers/ And Were stupid/And contagious ” , little bit cringe inducing potentially, no?

– As first spoken about here at GSF, The Dream confirms his involvment on the Magna Carta Holy Grail, specifically on the song Holy Grail

This is interesting in that Dream had stated that he worked on a song during the time of Watch The Throne that would be on Jay-Z next project, so this begs the question has Hov been sitting on this whole Holy Grail concept for over a year now?

Here is a new clip from Samsung promoting Jay-Z Magna Carta Holy Grail album. In the 30 second spot we have Jay-Z and Timbaland talking about “hey we should do 4 more songs, since we got the time”. In the background you hear what has to be a Neptunes beat, later in the commercial a trippy, synthy beat is played and Timbaland is seemingly the producer.

You hyped for this album yet?, I know I am!

Also kind of interesting, Industry Insiders are predicting first week sales of 400-450k, which would put it ahead of what Yeezus’s 1st week numbers are said to be (final #’s will be available soon). However those same insiders had Yeezus debuting with 500k , so who knows.

Magna Carta Holy Grail due out July 4th via app, 72 hrs later to the public. Will it leak before the 4th is the real question?

Kanye Yeezus J.Cole Born Sinner Mac Miller album sales estimates

20130619-232316.jpg
So according to hitsdailydouble.com which is pretty much the preeminent and almost only authority on album sales; this weeks hip hop releases are predicted as follows (based on first day estimates):
Kanye West Yeezus: 375-400k
J.Cole Born Sinner: 290-315k
Mac Miller Watching Movies With The Sound Off: 95-100k

Now bear in mind these are estimates, which as of late have often been a decent amount less than what the final #’s end up.

To me the biggest takeaway is how low Kanye’s sales are predicted to be. Industry estimates were in the 500k range, which frankly i thought was an intentional low ball because of the “F the system ” nature of Yeezus’s lead up and release. I figured between the past weeks feverish hype for Yeezus as well as the news over the weekend of Kanye and Kim Kardashian’s baby being born, pointed to the album over achieving sales wise. Now it’s very possible that Kanye’s very different approach to the album release could also have an effect on the predicting of sales, especially considering the no pre order element of Yeezus. But Hits Daily Double is too good not to factor that in.

The other takeaway is how well Cole’s Born Sinner is selling. Although not an unbelievable amount more than I thought (210-230k) his potential #’s would make his album this years 4th best release, with Timberlakes 20/20, West’s Yeezus and Daft Punks R.A.M being the top 3. Not bad company for young Jermaine.

If these numbers hold true the implications are interesting. To be fair I think Yeezus’s very good reviews and somewhat surprise element to many casual fans will lead to it having good and consistent sales for weeks to come.

The information is especially relevant to Jay-Z who seems on pace to have an even less traditional rollout for his album Magna Carta Holy Grail (he already has Kanye beat on the shortness between announcement to release date). The numbers really reinforce something I had immediately thought; why wouldn’t Jay-Z wait till at least today (6/19) to announce his album release. Stay tuned updates will be made to this post as the week goes on.
